Bathers Library Newsletter #14

Holiday party and yearbook release! New residents! Figure drawing! More!

Hello all! It is nearly the ides of December at this point and the library has been on the chilly side! But we’ve been doing our best to keep it busy and warm (though definitely bring a sweater if you’re planning on coming out). A few of our fall reading groups are already wrapping up—thanks to our brilliant facilitators for all your work gathering people to read and think and share together! Almost all of our groups this season filled up to capacity—incredible!—though there are still a few spots left in some of our January groups. So, if you were thinking of starting up your 2026 with a reading group, it is not too late! Okay, onto the newsletter!

Bathers Holiday Party and Yearbook Release

Come hang out at the library December 18th from 7-10pm! We’ll have drinks and snacks and will be generally celebrating the incredible year we’ve had with y’all at Bathers! We’ll also be releasing our first ever yearbook, documenting (in one way or another) nearly everything that’s happened in the space since we opened (and even a bit before). The book is still a work in progress—currently over 600 pages (but needs to get slimmed down!) (or maybe it doesn’t?) (we’ll see!) and it’s already such a cool document of all the cool programming and experiments we’ve done together over the last year. I’m so excited to share it with y’all. Come on out Dec 18 to make sure you get a copy!

Welcome Our New Residents

I am so excited to welcome our brand new residents, Mara Ramirez, jamayka, mayx, and Asari Aibangbee! They’re just getting moved in this week, and are already getting to work on some truly rad projects. We’re so excited to have them in the space and can’t wait to see what they get up to. Find out more about them here!

Figure Drawing this Saturday (with one of our new residents!)

Join our brand new winter resident, Mara Ramirez, this Saturday for drawing from a live, costumed model! Beginning with gestures in underwear, our model will be “reverse undressing”, and putting more clothes on with each passing pose. Our final drawing will be an extended pose in a full costume.

There will be light instruction and a guide to answer questions, with a demonstration in the beginning of how to do gesture drawings. Materials provided. Bring paper.

$15 for members, $20 nonmembers. Masks recommended.

Farewell (for now) to our fall residents!

Residents Luka (far left) and cyn (second from right) at our studio farewell gathering.

It is so bittersweet to say farewell (for now) to our incredible group of fall residents! Thank you Lisa, cyn, Quinn, and Luka for being such rad parts of our community and bringing such warmth and joy to the space! Make sure to follow them and keep up with what they’re up to.

Available now “Unburdened” by Quinn Edlin

One of our outgoing residents, Quinn Edlin spent her time finishing a major book project called “Unburdened” during her residency. Unburdened is a multi-media project, centered around shame and its impact on the individual and collective experience. The book includes Edlin’s short stories, along with essays focused on each interviewee from the film. Throughout her intimate conversations, she learns that there is no one way to get there—that seeking shamelessness is, in fact, a mystifying, forever journey.

We have a limited amount of copies in the store and available online at our site.
