First Friday, Poetry, Book Fairs, Reading Lists and New Residents!
Y’all! Can you believe it is JUNE! Wild. We are running face-first into summer and could not be happier about it. It. Should. Always. Be. This. Light. Right? Anyway, there is lots going on this month at Bathers—we have almost all of our 9 reading groups running at all hours of the day and night 7 days a week; we have a sweet First Friday art opening; a sick poetry reading—and some cooool member-organized events (more details on those via Instagram as they get closer). Annnnnnd we’re welcoming our summer residents, Cara Nguyen and Adriana Raquel this week! We are so excited to have Cara and Adriana here for the summer—we’ll have info about their open studios and other projects coming soon.
As always, if you’re interested in supporting the space, you can become a member which will get you discounts in the shop and set you up to use the Bathers space for your own events/gatherings/screenings/whatever! Sign up by June 18th to join in on our members meeting, Monday, June 23 at 7pm.

Create a reading list for Bathers Library
Readers, writers, and makers are invited to create a thematic reading list and curated bookshelf for Bathers Library. The books featured in a reading list will be displayed in the Bathers storefront, and then cataloged into the library’s collection.
What to include in a reading list
These reading lists are reflections of the interests, inspirations and obsessions of the Bathers community. Reading lists contain a selection of 6-10 books with an introduction and commentary. Here are some possible themes/approaches:
Have you written a book? Created a film, or a painting? Create a reading list to document the inspirations and references points that fed into the creation of your work. Check out Fitzcarraldo Editions’ author reading lists for examples of this approach.
A reading list that responds to a historical or cultural moment that you have a connection to. The “Earth Every Day” reading list created by Ana Tuazon is an example of this approach (currently on display at the Bather’s Library storefront).
A reading list that documents a literary/artistic movement that you think more people should know about.
A reading list that documents the creative output of a small press, an artist collective, or a “creative scene” that you think is important—especially if it has a local focus on the Bay Area or California.
That’s it for this month! Hope to see y’all soon!
