Join us for the Summer Symposium Opening Night Celebration at Moonglow (21+) in downtown Oakland! We’ll be joined by our favorites Alexis Madrigal and Rita Bullwinkel in conversation about art and extreme physical states (long distance running and competitive swimming, respectively). Followed by DJ Alex Shen of Lower Grand Radio. Thanks a million to the folks at Moonglow who are offering their space to us. Speaking of space—space is limited—entrance is included in the symposium pass, but make sure to RSVP so we can save you a spot.

And join us for the closing celebration, hosted by our friends at Good Hot in Richmond. If you're not familiar with Good Hot, it's a rad outdoor sauna complex with a cold plunge right into the water of the Bay in Richmond, CA. The location is absolutely stunning and the folks that run it are literally the best. They've generously donated their space for the symposium and we're extremely grateful!!! Starting at 6pm, we'll have snacks and bevs, and we can sauna and plunge together as the sun sets over the bay. We'll be joined by artist David Wilson who will help us close things up for the summer and Talia Monet will host an optional yoga and creative writing workshop, which you can sign up for here

Note: You'll need a car to get here (and parking space is limited). Please plan on carpooling (we'll set up a carpool sign up sheet at Bathers so as many people as possible can get there).

Our full schedule is now ONLINE! It is going to be so rad! We have dozens of incredible talks, screenings, performances, gatherings and hands-on workshops coming up (next week!). All events (unless otherwise noted) will happen at Bathers Library (or in one of our incredible neighboring spaces: Johansson Projects, Mighty Mighty Studio, Eternal Now, or RPS). Thank you to this incredible community for your support in making this happen!

We still have a few details we’re filling in, but check out the pretty-much full calendar of events below.

Support the Symposium! Get your passes!

All five days of programming (aside from Workshops, which you can sign up for here) are included in the Symposium Pass. It’s only $50! It’s a great way (it’s the only way!) to support the Symposium. All pass fees go to paying speakers/session leaders/curators/performers. If you wanna just come to one thing, you can donate at the door. And all (non-Workshop) events are NOTAFLOF—so if you can’t afford a pass right now, just come out!

Volunteer

We are going to need a lot of volunteers to make this happen! We’re having a volunteer orientation for Symposium Volunteers this Thursday 8/14 at 6pm. Come by and learn how you can plug in!

Some Symposium Needs

We are looking to borrow a few things to help pull this off—do you have any of these items we might borrow for the duration? Respond to this email if you have things we can use! THANK YOU!

  1. A PA system (with a couple mics).

  2. Folding chairs (lots!)?

  3. A projector for presentations.

That’s it for now!
